English:
Jolana was a Czechoslovakian guitar manufacturing company that produced electric guitars and basses from 1960 to near 1989. It is considered as one of the most interesting guitar companies in the twentieth century. Its popularity came from its well crafted instruments and alliance with big names like Jimmy Page and George Harrison.
The company had it’s beginnings in 1953 when the Rezonel factory in the town of Blantne, came under the supervision of Josef Ruzicka. He was part of a cooperative known as Drevokov. At the time, the organization’s chief product was furniture but under his leadership, the company began the manufacture of electric guitars.
However the organization was run as a cooperative because after WWII, Czechoslavakia entered the heavy hand of Communist rule and all private enterprise was forbidden.
The company's ending came in 1989 when the communist regime ended and the national cooperative fell into disarray. The factories that kept workers busy stopped manufacturing or became privatized.
Their run is celebrated by great models like the Jolana Futurama, used by George Harrison during The Beatles' first years and this beautiful Galaxis. Thirty years later, Jolana survives in guitar fans that always try to keep the vintage fire burning.
A true timeless icon.
